Otherworld (TV series)
Otherworld is an American science fiction television series that aired on CBS during the 1985 season. Created by Roderick Taylor, the show centered around the Sterling family, who, while vacationing in Egypt, are transported to a parallel world known as "Zone Tempest," a militaristic society divided into provinces ruled by various "Overlords."
The family consists of Hal Sterling, a widowed father and historian, and his four children: Trace, the eldest son and a talented athlete; Gina, the resourceful and skeptical daughter; June, the sensitive and artistic daughter; and Smith, the youngest son, often acting as the series' comic relief.
The premise of Otherworld focused on the Sterlings' attempts to navigate the dangers and complexities of Zone Tempest while searching for a way to return to their own world. They encounter various characters, some helpful and some hostile, and frequently find themselves caught in the power struggles between the Overlords.
The series was known for its unique world-building and philosophical themes, exploring issues of freedom, oppression, and the nature of reality. However, Otherworld suffered from low ratings and was cancelled after only eight episodes. Despite its short run, it has developed a cult following.
The show's distinctive visual style and unusual premise have led to comparisons with other science fiction properties such as The Prisoner and Quantum Leap.
