Opeinde
Opeinde is a village in the municipality of Smallingerland, in the province of Friesland, Netherlands. It is located about 3 kilometers southwest of Drachten. As of 2021, the village has a population of approximately 170 people.
The name Opeinde likely derives from its location "at the end" (Dutch: einde) of a larger area or settlement. The first part of the name, "Op," is a preposition meaning "on" or "at." Therefore, a literal translation might be "at the end."
Historically, Opeinde was a small agricultural community. While agriculture remains present, the village is increasingly a residential area for people working in nearby Drachten.
The area surrounding Opeinde is characterized by farmland and waterways typical of the Frisian landscape. The village itself is relatively small and features a few residential streets and a local community center. While Opeinde does not have a church or other large public facilities, it benefits from its proximity to the larger town of Drachten, which provides access to a wide range of services and amenities.
