Oliver Johnson (writer)

Oliver Johnson (1809-1889) was an American abolitionist, editor, and writer. He was a prominent figure in the anti-slavery movement, working closely with leading abolitionists such as William Lloyd Garrison. Johnson served as editor for several anti-slavery newspapers, including The Liberator, The Anti-Slavery Bugle, and The National Anti-Slavery Standard. His writings and editorials advocated for the immediate emancipation of enslaved people and the equality of all races. Beyond his anti-slavery work, Johnson also championed other reform causes, including temperance and women's rights. He authored a biography of William Lloyd Garrison titled William Lloyd Garrison and His Times, providing a valuable historical perspective on the abolitionist movement.
