Newmilns

Newmilns is a small town in East Ayrshire, Scotland. Situated in the Loudoun Valley, it lies on the A71 road between Kilmarnock and Darvel. Its name is derived from a combination of "new mills" referring to early industrial activity, and "Ayrns," a corruption of "Ayr," indicating its location within the shire of Ayr.

Historically, Newmilns developed as a weaving community, with handloom weaving flourishing in the 18th and 19th centuries. The introduction of power looms led to factory-based textile production, contributing significantly to the town's economy. Lace making also became a prominent industry. While textile manufacturing has declined considerably since its peak, it remains part of the town's heritage.

Newmilns offers a range of amenities including local shops, schools, and recreational facilities. It is surrounded by agricultural land and the scenic countryside of East Ayrshire. The town has a local football club, Newmilns F.C.
