Natales
Natales is a town and commune in Chilean Patagonia. It is the capital of the Última Esperanza Province, one of the four provinces that make up the Magallanes and Chilean Antarctica Region. Natales is located on the shore of the Señoret Channel, between the Eberhard Fjord and the Gulf of Almirante Montt.
The town serves as a major tourist gateway to the Torres del Paine National Park, and is a popular base for excursions into the surrounding landscape. It offers a variety of accommodations, restaurants, and tour operators catering to visitors.
Historically, the area around Natales was inhabited by indigenous peoples, primarily the Kawésqar. European settlement began in the late 19th century, driven by the growth of the sheep farming industry. The town of Natales itself was officially founded in 1911.
The economy of Natales is primarily based on tourism, followed by agriculture (especially sheep farming), and fishing. The town also has a small port, and some limited industrial activity.
The climate of Natales is cold and windy, with frequent precipitation. Summers are mild, while winters are long and harsh.
