NGC 509

NGC 509 is a lenticular galaxy located in the constellation Pisces. It is estimated to be approximately 330 million light-years away from Earth. NGC 509 is a member of the Pisces Cluster (also known as the Abell 194 galaxy cluster), a group of galaxies gravitationally bound together. Lenticular galaxies, classified as type S0 in the Hubble sequence, possess a bright central bulge and a disk-like structure, similar to spiral galaxies, but lack prominent spiral arms. They are generally believed to be galaxies that have used up much of their gas and dust, resulting in little to no ongoing star formation.
