Monte Carlo (2011 film)
Monte Carlo is a 2011 American romantic comedy adventure film directed by Thomas Bezucha. It stars Selena Gomez, Leighton Meester, and Katie Cassidy as three young women who go on a long-planned trip to Paris, which quickly devolves into unexpected adventure and romance.
The plot centers around Grace Bennett (Gomez), a high school graduate who is tagging along with her stepsister Meg (Meester) and her best friend Emma (Cassidy) on a trip to Paris financed by Emma's parents. Feeling stifled by her overbearing parents and longing for adventure, Grace finds herself mistaken for Cordelia Winthrop Scott, a wealthy and spoiled British heiress.
Capitalizing on the resemblance, the three friends impulsively decide to impersonate Cordelia and embark on a glamorous trip to Monte Carlo, Monaco. There, they become entangled in Cordelia's life, attracting the attention of handsome men and facing the challenges of maintaining their charade.
The film explores themes of identity, self-discovery, and the allure of a life different from one's own. As the story progresses, each of the women finds herself grappling with the consequences of their deception and discovering more about herself. The film features romantic subplots involving the characters Jules (Pierre Boulanger) and Owen (Cory Monteith).
Monte Carlo was produced by Denise Di Novi and Alison Greenspan and distributed by 20th Century Fox. While it received mixed reviews from critics, the film was a moderate box office success.
