Mileștii Mici (winery)
Mileștii Mici is a Moldovan winery located in the village of Mileștii Mici, approximately 18 kilometers from Chișinău. It is renowned for its extensive underground cellars, which stretch for over 200 kilometers, making it one of the largest wine cellars in the world.
The winery's history dates back to 1969, when it was established to store, age, and bottle a wide variety of Moldovan wines. The cellars are carved out of limestone rock at depths ranging from 30 to 85 meters, providing a constant temperature and humidity ideal for wine aging.
Mileștii Mici holds a Guinness World Record for having the largest wine collection in the world, with over 1.5 million bottles. The collection includes a diverse range of Moldovan wines, including red, white, and rosé varieties, as well as dessert wines and sparkling wines. Many of the wines are stored in large oak barrels, while others are kept in individual bottles or magnums.
The winery offers guided tours of its underground cellars, allowing visitors to explore the vast network of tunnels and learn about the winemaking process. Tours typically include a wine tasting session featuring some of the winery's most popular vintages. The "Golden Collection" represents the rarest and most valuable wines.
Mileștii Mici is a significant contributor to Moldova's wine industry and a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors from around the world who are interested in wine culture and history.
