Matthew Scott (rugby league)

Matthew Scott (born 25 July 1985) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played as a prop for the North Queensland Cowboys in the National Rugby League (NRL). An Australian international and Queensland State of Origin representative, he captained the Cowboys to their maiden NRL premiership in 2015 and also captained Queensland.

Scott played his entire NRL career with the Cowboys, debuting in 2004. He was known for his uncompromising style of play and leadership qualities. He was a consistent performer throughout his career, earning numerous accolades, including the Paul Bowman Medal as the Cowboys' Player of the Year on four occasions.

He was an integral part of the Cowboys' success during the 2010s, including their grand final victories in 2015 and their World Club Challenge win in 2016.

Scott announced his retirement from rugby league in 2019 due to a chronic shoulder injury. Following his retirement, he transitioned into coaching and media roles. He is regarded as one of the greatest players in North Queensland Cowboys history and a legend of the NRL.
