Martin Meyer (South African politician)

Martin Meyer was a South African politician who served as a Member of Parliament during the apartheid era and in the transitional government period following the end of apartheid. He was a member of the National Party (NP) and held various ministerial positions.

Meyer played a significant role in the negotiations that led to the end of apartheid and the establishment of a democratic South Africa. He served as the Minister of Constitutional Development and Planning in the government of F.W. de Klerk, a key portfolio responsible for managing the complex process of constitutional reform. In this role, Meyer was involved in critical discussions with the African National Congress (ANC) and other political parties to develop a new constitution for the country.

Following the first multiracial elections in 1994, Meyer served in the Government of National Unity under President Nelson Mandela.
