Mark Wright (footballer, born 1963)
Mark Wright (born 1 August 1963) is an English former professional footballer who played as a centre-back.
Wright began his career at Liverpool in 1982, where he became a key player and eventually captain. He made over 200 appearances for the club, winning two league titles in 1986 and 1990, and the FA Cup in 1986. He was known for his commanding presence in defence, strong tackling, and leadership qualities.
Internationally, Wright represented England, earning 45 caps between 1984 and 1996. He was a member of the England squad for the 1990 FIFA World Cup and captained the side at Euro 1996, where England reached the semi-finals.
After leaving Liverpool in 1991, he joined Derby County as player-manager. He managed the club for a period before later managing Oxford United, Chester City and Peterborough United. Since retiring from management, he has worked as a pundit and commentator for various media outlets.
