Manigri
Manigri is a term primarily used in the Philippines, particularly in Tagalog-speaking regions, to refer to a dark, brownish-black color, often describing the skin tone of a person. It is generally understood as darker than kayumanggi (brown) and lighter than pure black. The term can sometimes carry negative connotations depending on the context and the speaker's intent, although its use is generally descriptive rather than derogatory in nature. The perceived negativity can stem from historical and societal biases related to skin color. While primarily used to describe skin tone, manigri can also be used to describe the color of objects. However, its association with human skin is more prevalent. The etymology of the word is not definitively known, but it is believed to have connections to older Austronesian languages. Modern usage of the term is declining, with many preferring the more neutral moreno or specific descriptions of shade.
