Lyrkeia

Lyrkeia was a village in ancient Argolis, Greece, situated on the road between Argos and Tegea. It was located near Mount Lyrcus, from which it likely derived its name. Pausanias, in his Description of Greece, mentions Lyrkeia as being in ruins by his time (2nd century CE), noting a temple of Dionysus and a spring. Archaeological evidence confirms the presence of ancient habitation in the area. The village played a minor role in the historical and mythological landscape of the Peloponnese.
