Lou Busch

Lou Busch (1910-1979) was an American pianist, arranger, and bandleader. He was best known for his boogie-woogie and honky-tonk piano playing, often performing under the pseudonym Joe "Fingers" Carr.

Busch began his career as a session musician and arranger in the 1930s, working with various big bands. During World War II, he served in the United States Army. After the war, he began releasing records under his own name and as Joe "Fingers" Carr. His recordings, particularly those released under the Carr name, were hugely popular, featuring lively, often comical, piano instrumentals. "Sam's Song" (with Carl Fischer), originally a hit in 1950, was one of his best-known compositions. He also composed or co-composed "Ivory Rag," "Honky Tonk Piano Rag," and "Portuguese Washerwoman."

Busch's work heavily influenced the development of honky-tonk piano style in popular music. He also contributed to film soundtracks and television shows. He remained active in the music industry until his death in 1979.
