Li Yao (footballer)

Li Yao (born January 20, 1977) is a retired Chinese professional footballer who played as a defender.

Career

Li Yao began his professional football career with Bayi FC in 1996. He quickly established himself in the team's defense and remained with the club until it was dissolved in 2003.

Following the dissolution of Bayi FC, Li Yao joined Shanghai Shenhua. He was a key member of the team's defense for several seasons. During his time with Shanghai Shenhua, he was known for his strong tackling and aerial ability.

In 2010, Li Yao moved to Shenzhen Ruby where he spent the remainder of his playing career. He eventually retired from professional football.
