Leonid Volkov (politician)

Leonid Mikhailovich Volkov (Russian: Леонид Михайлович Волков, born November 10, 1980) is a Russian politician, IT specialist, and public figure. He is known for his work as a close associate and chief of staff to Alexei Navalny, a prominent Russian opposition leader.

Volkov's political career began in the early 2000s. He has held various positions within the Russian opposition movement, including serving as a deputy in the Yekaterinburg City Duma (2009-2011) and as a candidate for mayor of Yekaterinburg in 2013.

A significant aspect of Volkov's work has been his focus on leveraging technology to promote political transparency and participation. He has been involved in developing online platforms and tools used for election monitoring, crowdfunding, and organizing political campaigns.

Following Navalny's arrest and subsequent imprisonment, Volkov played a key role in coordinating the opposition's activities from outside of Russia. He has been a vocal critic of the Russian government and has advocated for international sanctions against individuals and entities associated with human rights abuses and corruption.

In recent years, Volkov has faced significant challenges, including criminal investigations, political pressure, and exile. He has been a target of alleged attacks and smear campaigns, which he and his supporters attribute to his political activism.

Volkov's political views are generally considered to be liberal and pro-democracy. He advocates for greater political freedom, rule of law, and economic reforms in Russia. He is a strong supporter of European integration and closer ties with Western countries.
