L (Néry) Battery Royal Horse Artillery

L (Néry) Battery Royal Horse Artillery is a battery within the Royal Horse Artillery (RHA), a regiment of the British Army. The battery is a mounted artillery unit, historically using horses to move guns and equipment.

The "L" indicates the battery's designation within the RHA order of battle. The parenthetical "(Néry)" denotes a battle honour, specifically commemorating the Battle of Nery on 1 September 1914 during World War I. During this action, a section of L Battery, Royal Horse Artillery, under Captain Edward Kinder Bradbury, fought with exceptional bravery against a much larger German force, inflicting significant casualties despite being heavily outnumbered and sustaining severe losses. Bradbury was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions.

The battery's battle honour of "Néry" is a source of immense pride and serves as a reminder of the courage and sacrifice of its predecessors. As a modern unit within the RHA, L (Néry) Battery continues to uphold the traditions and values of the regiment, participating in ceremonial duties, operational deployments, and training exercises. While the modern RHA has largely transitioned to mechanized transport, the history and traditions of horse-drawn artillery remain central to its identity.
