Kutleš

Kutleš, also sometimes referred to as Kutlesh or Kutles, is a geographical and historical region located in Macedonia. It generally refers to the area encompassing the ancient Macedonian capital of Aegae (modern Vergina in Greece) and its surrounding territory. Historically, Kutleš was a significant area within the Kingdom of Macedon, playing a vital role in its political and cultural development. The region is renowned for its rich archaeological heritage, most notably the royal tombs discovered at Vergina, including the tomb believed to be that of Philip II, father of Alexander the Great. Today, the term is used to denote the region around Vergina, and often carries historical and nationalistic connotations for some. The etymology of the name "Kutleš" is uncertain, but it is a term used predominantly in Macedonian historiography and within certain cultural contexts when referring to the area around Aegae/Vergina. The area remains a significant site for historical and archaeological research into ancient Macedonia.
