Kalurghat
Kalurghat is an industrial area located in Chittagong District, Bangladesh. It is situated on the south bank of the Karnaphuli River, approximately 8 kilometers upstream from the city center of Chittagong.
Historically, Kalurghat served as an important river port and trading hub. In modern times, it is known primarily for its industrial establishments, including factories and manufacturing units, contributing to the economy of Chittagong and Bangladesh.
A key landmark in Kalurghat is the Kalurghat Bridge, officially known as the Shah Amanat Bridge. This bridge is a vital transportation link connecting the two sides of the Karnaphuli River in the area, facilitating the movement of people and goods. The original bridge, built during British colonial rule, played a significant role in the 1971 Liberation War of Bangladesh, particularly in resisting the Pakistani army. A newer bridge replaced the older structure to accommodate heavier traffic and modern transportation needs.
