Bimal Kar

Bimal Kar (বিমল কর) (19 September 1921 – 26 August 2003) was a prominent Bengali novelist and short story writer. He was born in Taldanga, West Bengal, India. Kar is considered a significant figure in modern Bengali literature, known for his subtle prose, psychological depth, and realistic portrayals of everyday life.

He authored over 200 novels, short story collections, and children's books. Some of his most notable works include "Ekti Jibon" (একটি জীবন), "Asamoy" (অসময়), "Purna Apurna" (পূর্ণ অপূর্ণ), and the "Balika Badhu" (বালিকা বধূ) series for young readers. Many of his works have been adapted into popular films and television series.

Kar received numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to Bengali literature, including the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1975 for his novel "Asamoy." His writing often explored themes of social change, human relationships, and the complexities of modern existence. He is remembered for his distinctive narrative style and his ability to capture the nuances of Bengali society.
