KOFY-TV
KOFY-TV, virtual channel 20 (UHF digital channel 19), is an independent television station licensed to San Francisco, California, United States, serving the San Francisco Bay Area. The station is owned by Nexstar Media Group. KOFY-TV's studios are located on Battery Street in downtown San Francisco, and its transmitter is located atop Sutro Tower.
KOFY-TV originally signed on the air on November 4, 1964, as KBHK-TV, an independent station owned by Kaiser Broadcasting. It primarily aired movies, syndicated programs, and some local sports. In 1983, Field Communications purchased KBHK-TV and changed its call letters to present-day KOFY-TV. The call letters were chosen to associate with coffee, attempting to position the station as an "eye-opener" for morning viewers.
Over the years, KOFY-TV has been affiliated with various networks including The WB and UPN. It regained its independent status in 2006 after The WB and UPN merged to form The CW.
KOFY-TV broadcasts a mix of syndicated programming, local programming, and infomercials. The station is also known for its local sports coverage, particularly the San Francisco Giants baseball games, which it broadcasts in partnership with KNTV (NBC Bay Area). KOFY-TV is also home to "Creepy KOFY Movie Time," a long-running cult classic movie showcase. The station also airs a locally-produced news program, Bay Area Focus.
