He gained early experience on Broadway and in radio before signing a contract with Paramount Pictures in the 1940s.

Lund's film career began with a starring role in "To Each His Own" (1946), opposite Olivia de Havilland. He quickly established himself as a leading man, often playing dependable and likeable characters. His notable film credits include "The Perils of Pauline" (1947), "A Foreign Affair" (1948) with Marlene Dietrich, "Miss Tatlock's Millions" (1948), "My Friend Irma" (1949), and "No Man of Her Own" (1950) alongside Barbara Stanwyck.

In the 1950s, Lund's film career began to wane, and he increasingly turned to television. He starred in several TV series, including "My Friend Irma" (the television adaptation of the film), "The Loretta Young Show," and "General Electric Theater." He continued to act in guest roles on television throughout the 1960s.

John Lund died of heart failure in Los Angeles, California, in 1992. He is remembered for his contributions to film, stage, and television during Hollywood's Golden Age.
