John Gill (printer)
John Gill (1713-1791) was an English Baptist minister, theologian, and printer. He served as the pastor of Carter Lane Baptist Church in Southwark, London, for over 50 years, from 1748 until his death.
While primarily known for his theological works and sermons, Gill also operated a printing business. He printed many of his own writings, as well as those of other authors, often with a particular focus on Reformed theology and Baptist perspectives. His printing house played a significant role in disseminating his views and contributing to the wider theological debates of his time.
Gill's best-known theological works include An Exposition of the Holy Scriptures, a comprehensive commentary on the entire Bible, and A Body of Doctrinal Divinity and A Body of Practical Divinity, systematic theologies that articulate his Calvinistic Baptist beliefs. His printed works thus served not only as religious texts but also as expressions of his personal theological stances.
