John Embree (American football)
John Embree (born January 3, 1965) is an American football coach and former player. He is currently the tight ends coach for the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League (NFL).
Playing Career
Embree played college football as a tight end at the University of Colorado Boulder from 1983 to 1986. He was a standout player for the Buffaloes and earned All-Big Eight Conference honors.
Coaching Career
Embree has held various coaching positions at both the college and professional levels. His coaching experience includes:
- University of Colorado Boulder: Held multiple positions including tight ends coach, wide receivers coach, and recruiting coordinator. He served as the head coach of the Buffaloes in 2011.
- Kansas City Chiefs: Tight ends coach.
- Washington Redskins/Washington Commanders: Tight ends coach.
- Cleveland Browns: Tight ends coach.
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Tight ends coach.
- San Francisco 49ers: Tight ends coach.
- Los Angeles Rams: Tight ends coach (Current position).
Embree is known for his experience in developing tight ends and his recruiting abilities, particularly during his time at Colorado. His head coaching stint at Colorado was brief, and the team struggled during that period. However, he has been a consistent presence as a position coach in the NFL.
