John Best (British politician)
John Best (born 28 June 1940, died 10 May 2014) was a British Labour Party politician. He served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Rotherham from 1983 to 1992.
Born in Sheffield, Best was educated at Rotherham Grammar School and later at the University of Hull, where he studied law. Before entering parliament, he worked as a solicitor.
Best won the Rotherham seat in the 1983 general election, succeeding Stanley Crowther. He served on various parliamentary committees during his tenure, including the Home Affairs Select Committee. Known for his dedication to his constituency, he focused on issues such as local industry, employment, and social welfare.
He lost his seat in the 1992 general election to Denis MacShane of the Labour Party. Following his departure from parliament, Best returned to legal practice.
