Jody Davis (baseball)
Jody Davis (born November 12, 1957) is a former professional baseball catcher who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1981 to 1990. He is best known for his time with the Chicago Cubs, where he was a key player in their 1984 National League East Division championship team.
Davis was drafted by the New York Mets in 1976 but was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals in 1980. He made his major league debut with the Cardinals in 1981 before being traded to the Chicago Cubs in 1982.
As the Cubs' starting catcher, Davis was a two-time All-Star (1984 and 1986) and won a Gold Glove Award in 1986 for his defensive excellence. He was known for his strong throwing arm and ability to call a game. Offensively, Davis was a power hitter, averaging over 15 home runs per season during his prime years with the Cubs.
After leaving the Cubs in 1988, Davis played for the Atlanta Braves (1988-1989) and the Philadelphia Phillies (1990) before retiring from baseball.
Following his playing career, Davis has been involved in coaching and has worked as a baseball instructor. He remains a popular figure among Cubs fans.
