Ioan Popovici (brigadier general)

Ioan Popovici (born August 26, 1892, died July 1, 1946) was a Romanian Brigadier General during World War II.

Popovici entered military service and rose through the ranks, eventually achieving the rank of Brigadier General (General de Brigadă). He served in various command positions throughout his career, primarily during the Second World War.

During the war, he commanded the 1st Mountain Division, a significant Romanian unit involved in fighting on the Eastern Front. He participated in key campaigns, including operations in the Caucasus.

After the war, he was arrested and subsequently sentenced to death by the Romanian People's Tribunal. He was executed in 1946 as part of the post-war purges against military and political figures associated with the wartime regime. His execution was based on charges related to his role during the war.
