Ike Opara
Ike Opara (born February 21, 1989) is a retired American professional soccer player. He primarily played as a center back.
Opara played college soccer for Wake Forest University, where he was a key member of the team that won the 2007 NCAA Men's Soccer Championship. He was drafted third overall in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft by the San Jose Earthquakes.
During his MLS career, Opara also played for Sporting Kansas City and Minnesota United FC. He was a two-time MLS Defender of the Year (2017 and 2019), showcasing his exceptional defensive abilities and leadership qualities. He also won the U.S. Open Cup twice with Sporting Kansas City (2012 and 2015) and the MLS Cup in 2013.
Opara was known for his athleticism, strength, and aerial ability. He retired from professional soccer in 2021 due to persistent injuries.
