Ian Watson (ice hockey)

Ian Watson (born July 17, 1976, in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player and current ice hockey coach. He is currently the head coach of the Cardiff Devils in the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL).

Watson played junior hockey in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) for the Hull Olympiques and the Val-d'Or Foreurs. He was not drafted by a National Hockey League (NHL) team.

He began his professional career in North America, playing in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) and the American Hockey League (AHL) before moving to Europe.

Watson has had a long and successful playing and coaching career in the United Kingdom. He played for several EIHL teams, including the Coventry Blaze and the Cardiff Devils. He was known as a skilled offensive player.

After retiring as a player, Watson transitioned to coaching. He initially served as an assistant coach for the Cardiff Devils before being appointed head coach. As head coach, he has led the Devils to numerous EIHL championships and Challenge Cup victories. He is recognized as one of the most successful coaches in EIHL history. He is also involved in player development and recruitment for the team.
