IS-1 Sęp

The IS-1 (also referred to as "Sęp" which translates to "Vulture" in Polish) was a Polish post-World War II glider designed and built by the Instytut Szybownictwa (Gliding Institute). It was a high-performance, single-seat sailplane intended for competition flying. The design was innovative for its time, incorporating laminar flow wings to improve aerodynamic efficiency and performance.

The development of the IS-1 was part of Poland's efforts to rebuild its aviation industry after the war. The glider aimed to provide Polish pilots with competitive equipment and advance gliding technology within the country. Several examples were produced and used in various gliding competitions and events in the post-war period. The glider played a significant role in the development of Polish gliding and contributed to the advancement of aerodynamic understanding within the Polish aviation sector.
