House of Representatives (Yemen)
The House of Representatives is the unicameral legislature of Yemen. It is the primary legislative body of the country, responsible for enacting laws, approving the general budget, and overseeing the executive branch.
The number of seats in the House of Representatives is 301. Members are directly elected by popular vote from single-member constituencies. The term of office is six years.
Due to the ongoing Yemeni Civil War and the Houthi takeover of Sana'a, the House of Representatives is divided and its functionality is significantly impaired. A rump parliament aligned with the internationally recognized government of Yemen operates in Aden and other areas under their control, while another faction remains in Sana'a under Houthi control. The legitimacy and effectiveness of both factions are disputed. The scheduled elections have been repeatedly postponed due to the instability in the country.
