Harold Jones (bishop)

Harold Jones (1907-1985) was a Welsh Anglican bishop. He served as the Bishop of Bangor from 1957 to 1982.

Born in Llanddewi Brefi, Cardiganshire, Jones was educated at Lampeter Grammar School and St David's College, Lampeter. He was ordained a deacon in 1930 and a priest in 1931.

He served as a curate in Llanfair Caereinion before becoming vicar of Holy Trinity Church, Oswestry. Later, he held the positions of Warden of the Church Hostel, Bangor, and Examining Chaplain to the Bishop of Bangor. He was consecrated Bishop of Bangor in 1957 and served in that role until his retirement in 1982. During his tenure, he was known for his strong advocacy for the Welsh language and culture within the Church in Wales. He also played a significant role in various ecumenical initiatives.
