Hamurana

Hamurana is a freshwater spring and surrounding reserve located near Rotorua, in the Bay of Plenty region of New Zealand's North Island. It is known for its exceptionally clear, cold water emanating from the Hamurana Stream, fed by several springs. The clarity allows for exceptional visibility of underwater features, including submerged logs and vegetation.

The Hamurana Spring is the largest natural freshwater spring in the North Island, discharging approximately 4 million litres of water per hour. The water maintains a constant temperature of around 10 degrees Celsius (50 degrees Fahrenheit).

The Hamurana Scenic Reserve provides a short, accessible walking track through native bush alongside the Hamurana Stream. This walk offers views of the spring, the clear water, and the surrounding forest. Introduced trout are also commonly seen in the stream.

The area holds cultural significance for the local Māori iwi, who have historical and spiritual connections to the spring and its waters. The name "Hamurana" is of Māori origin.
