HSR-350x
The HSR-350x (also known as the G7) was a South Korean experimental high-speed train developed by the Korea Railroad Research Institute (KRRI). Its primary purpose was to serve as a testbed for technologies intended for future generations of Korean high-speed rail.
The trainset achieved a top speed of 352.4 km/h during testing in 2004, setting a Korean rail speed record at the time. The HSR-350x incorporated several advanced features compared to the existing KTX-I fleet, including improved aerodynamic design, lighter materials, and an advanced traction system. The research gathered from the HSR-350x project significantly contributed to the development of the KTX-Sancheon (also known as KTX-II), the second generation of commercially operated Korean high-speed trains. Following the completion of its testing phase, the HSR-350x was retired from active service, becoming a historical artifact representing South Korea's advancements in high-speed rail technology.
