HMS Tenacious (1917)
HMS Tenacious was a British T-class destroyer built for the Royal Navy during World War I. She was one of eight destroyers ordered in December 1916 as part of the Tenth War Programme. Tenacious was built by John Brown & Company, Clydebank, and launched on 17 November 1917.
The T-class destroyers were designed as improved versions of the preceding R class, with a higher forecastle and modified hull form intended to improve seakeeping. They displaced around 1,090 tons standard and were armed with four 4-inch (102 mm) guns and two twin 21-inch (533 mm) torpedo tubes. They were powered by steam turbines, giving them a speed of around 36 knots (67 km/h; 41 mph).
Tenacious served throughout the remainder of World War I, primarily operating in the North Sea. Details of her specific wartime service are somewhat scant, reflecting the general operational routine of destroyers at the time, which included patrol duties, escorting convoys, and screening larger warships.
Following the end of the war, Tenacious remained in service with the Royal Navy. The interwar period was one of relative peace, and Tenacious likely participated in fleet exercises and routine patrols. She was eventually sold for scrap on 30 January 1936.
