HMS Dreadnought (1660)
HMS Dreadnought (1660) was a 60-gun fourth-rate ship of the line in the English Royal Navy. She was originally ordered as the Dreadnought by the Commonwealth government in 1654 and launched at Portsmouth Dockyard in 1660, just after the Restoration of the monarchy, officially becoming part of the Royal Navy.
The Dreadnought participated in the Second Anglo-Dutch War (1665-1667), playing a role in significant naval engagements such as the Battle of Lowestoft in 1665. She was also involved in the Third Anglo-Dutch War (1672-1674).
During her service, the Dreadnought underwent several refits and repairs. Notably, she was rebuilt in 1694, at which point she was reclassified in line with contemporary naval rating systems.
The Dreadnought was eventually wrecked off Brest in 1697.
