HMS Camberley (1918)

HMS Camberley was a Hunt-class minesweeper of the Aberdare sub-class, built for the Royal Navy during World War I. Ordered in 1917, she was completed in 1918, near the end of the war. She was designed for clearing coastal waters of mines. These ships were built to mercantile standards to allow for faster production.

Like other ships of her class, Camberley was armed with a single 4-inch (102 mm) gun for self-defense and could carry minesweeping gear. Her design was specifically intended for operation in shallow coastal waters and harbors.

Following the end of World War I, HMS Camberley continued to serve in the Royal Navy, primarily engaged in minesweeping operations to clear sea lanes that remained hazardous due to unexploded mines. Her duties likely included patrolling British coastal waters and potentially deploying to other areas where mines posed a navigational threat. Details of her post-war service are sparsely documented, but she was eventually disposed of, consistent with the drawdown of naval vessels in the interwar period. The precise date of her decommissioning or sale is not readily available.
