HGS (electronic toll collection)

Hızlı Geçiş Sistemi (HGS) is an electronic toll collection (ETC) system used primarily in Turkey. It allows drivers to pay tolls without stopping by using a radio-frequency identification (RFID) tag affixed to the vehicle's windshield. When a vehicle with an HGS tag passes through a toll plaza, the system automatically reads the tag and deducts the toll amount from the associated account.

The HGS system offers an alternative to the manual toll collection system (KGS), which previously required drivers to stop and pay tolls with cash or a magnetic stripe card. HGS aims to reduce traffic congestion at toll plazas and improve the overall efficiency of highway transportation.

HGS tags can be obtained and recharged at various locations, including banks, post offices, and designated HGS sales points. Users are typically required to create an account and deposit funds, which are then automatically debited each time the vehicle passes through a toll booth. Regular monitoring of the account balance is necessary to avoid penalties or account suspension.

The system is widely adopted across Turkey's toll roads and bridges, providing a convenient and efficient method for toll payment. HGS contributes to streamlined traffic flow and decreased wait times for drivers.
