HD 126009

HD 126009 is a G-type main-sequence star located approximately 120 light-years away in the constellation Virgo. It is slightly more massive and luminous than our Sun. The star is notable for hosting an extrasolar planet, HD 126009 b.

HD 126009 b, also known as HIP 70402 b, is a gas giant exoplanet discovered in 2006. It has a minimum mass several times that of Jupiter and orbits its host star at a relatively large distance. The planet's orbital period is significantly longer than many of the hot Jupiters discovered early in exoplanet research.

The discovery of HD 126009 b was made using the radial velocity method, which detects subtle wobbles in a star's motion caused by the gravitational pull of an orbiting planet. Continued observations of HD 126009 are crucial for refining our understanding of the planet's orbital parameters and physical properties, as well as for potentially detecting additional planets in the system.
