Häring
Häring (German pronunciation: [ˈhɛːʁɪŋ]) is the German word for herring. It refers primarily to Atlantic herring ( Clupea harengus), a common and commercially important fish species. The term can encompass the fish in various stages of processing and preparation, from whole fresh fish to pickled, smoked, or marinated products.
In German cuisine, Häring is a popular ingredient, often served pickled as Rollmops (rolled pickled herring fillets), Bismarckhering (herring marinated in vinegar, oil, onions, and mustard seeds), or Matjes (mildly cured herring). It is also commonly eaten smoked or fried. Regional variations exist in how Häring is prepared and consumed.
