Governor's School for the Arts (Kentucky)

The Governor's School for the Arts (GSA) is a three-week summer residential program in Kentucky for high school students interested in pursuing careers in the arts. GSA provides intensive instruction and mentorship in nine artistic disciplines: Architecture, Creative Writing, Dance, Drama, Film & Photography, Instrumental Music, Musical Theatre, Visual Art, and Vocal Music.

The program is highly competitive, requiring an application and audition process for acceptance. GSA is tuition-free for Kentucky residents, with funding provided by the state government and private donations. Students selected for GSA live on a college campus and participate in a rigorous schedule of classes, rehearsals, and performances. The curriculum is designed to challenge students artistically and academically, fostering creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking skills.

GSA aims to connect students with professional artists, educators, and fellow aspiring artists, building a supportive community and network. The program culminates in final performances and exhibitions showcasing the students' work. Many GSA alumni have gone on to successful careers in the arts and related fields. The program is administered by Kentucky Performing Arts and has been operating for over three decades.
