Giacometti (horse)
Giacometti was a Thoroughbred racehorse foaled in 1974. Bred in Kentucky, he was known primarily for his victories in several important races in North America during the late 1970s. He was owned by George Strawbridge Jr. and trained by Jonathan Sheppard.
Giacometti's racing career saw him compete in both flat and steeplechase races. Notably, he won the Temple Gwathmey Handicap, a prestigious steeplechase event. He also achieved success on the flat, showcasing versatility rarely seen in horses competing at that level.
Following his racing career, Giacometti was retired to stud. While he did sire some winners, he did not achieve widespread recognition as a prominent sire. His legacy is primarily tied to his performances on the racetrack, particularly his steeplechase victories. His name is most often recalled in discussions about the versatility of Thoroughbred racehorses and the legacy of Jonathan Sheppard's training.
