George Beaumont (minister)
George Beaumont (1704-1773) was an English clergyman and academic. He served as Master of Trinity College, Cambridge, from 1750 until his death in 1773.
Born in Yorkshire, Beaumont was educated at Eton College and King's College, Cambridge. He was elected a Fellow of King's in 1728 and subsequently held various college offices, including Bursar and Dean.
Beaumont took holy orders and was appointed Rector of Kelshall in Hertfordshire in 1736. He also served as a chaplain to King George II.
In 1750, he was elected Master of Trinity College, Cambridge. During his tenure, he oversaw improvements to the college buildings and encouraged scholarly pursuits. He was known for his administrative skills and his commitment to maintaining the traditions of the college.
Beaumont was also Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cambridge for the year 1751-1752.
He died in 1773 and is buried in Trinity College Chapel. While not a prolific author, he was a respected figure in academic and ecclesiastical circles in 18th-century England.
