Gayasan (North and South Gyeongsang)

Gayasan, located on the border between North Gyeongsang and South Gyeongsang provinces in South Korea, is a prominent mountain revered for its natural beauty and historical significance. Haeinsa Temple houses the Tripitaka Koreana, a complete collection of Buddhist scriptures carved onto over 80,000 wooden printing blocks. This collection is a national treasure and a testament to the advanced printing technology of the Goryeo Dynasty. Gayasan National Park was established in 1972 to protect the mountain's diverse ecosystem. The park is home to a variety of flora and fauna, including rare and endangered species. Hiking is a popular activity, with trails ranging from easy walks to challenging climbs. The peak of Sanghwangbong is the highest point in the park.

The mountain's name, "Gaya Mountain," references the ancient Gaya Confederacy that existed in the region centuries ago. The area surrounding Gayasan has a rich history and is dotted with archaeological sites and cultural relics. The mountain is a popular destination for both religious pilgrims and nature enthusiasts.
