Gao Qiong

Gao Qiong (高琼, 935 – 1006), courtesy name Bao Chen (保臣), was a prominent military general and official of the early Song Dynasty in China.

Gao Qiong served under Emperor Taizu, the founder of the Song Dynasty, and continued to serve under Emperor Taizong and Emperor Zhenzong. He was renowned for his bravery, military acumen, and loyalty to the imperial court. He participated in numerous campaigns during the dynasty's consolidation and expansion, contributing significantly to the Song's military victories.

His military career included engagements against the Northern Han dynasty, the Liao dynasty, and various rebellions within the Song territories. He rose through the ranks due to his consistent successes and demonstrated leadership.

Beyond his military accomplishments, Gao Qiong was known for his discipline and adherence to military regulations. He was respected by his troops and feared by his enemies. His contributions earned him numerous titles and honors from the Song emperors.

Gao Qiong died in 1006 and was posthumously granted significant honors, a testament to his lasting impact on the military and political landscape of the early Song Dynasty. He is remembered as one of the key military figures of that era.
