Gönen Dam

The Gönen Dam is an embankment dam located on the Gönen River, approximately 12 km northeast of Gönen in Balıkesir Province, Turkey. Its primary purpose is irrigation and flood control. Construction of the dam began in 1992 and it was completed in 1997. The dam has a height of 48 meters above the foundation and a crest length of 548 meters. The reservoir created by the dam has a storage capacity of approximately 81.2 million cubic meters. It irrigates an area of around 20,000 hectares.
