Frederick Read (cricketer)

Frederick Read (1863 – 1929) was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Derbyshire between 1885 and 1896.

Read was born at Alvaston, Derbyshire, and became a brewer's traveller. He made his debut for Derbyshire in the 1885 season against Lancashire, when he scored 18 and 14, and played three matches that season. In the 1886 season, he played six matches but managed only a top score of 22. He made little impact in the 1887 and 1888 seasons. Read did not play in 1889 or 1890, and returned in the 1891 season to play four matches. He did not play again until the 1895 season when he played one match. His final first-class match was in the 1896 season against Warwickshire.

Read was a right-handed batsman and played 17 innings in 11 first-class matches, with a top score of 22 and an average of 8.23.

Read died at Derby at the age of 66.
