Fort Point Light (Texas)

Fort Point Light is a historic lighthouse located in Galveston, Texas. It is situated at the entrance to Galveston Harbor, marking the westernmost point of the harbor's entrance. Construction began in 1852 and the light was first lit in 1853. The structure itself is a distinctive octagonal brick tower, built to withstand harsh coastal conditions. It played a crucial role in guiding ships into the harbor throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, contributing significantly to the port's economic growth. Following the decommissioning of Fort Point Light in the mid-20th century, it fell into disrepair. However, through restoration efforts, it has been preserved and is now open to the public as a historical landmark, offering insights into the maritime history of Galveston. Further research is needed to determine the exact date of decommissioning and details on the restoration process.
