Experiment (1802 EIC ship)
The Experiment was an East Indiaman launched in 1802 for the British East India Company (EIC). She made seven voyages for the company before being sold in 1817.
Experiment was built at Deptford by Perry, Wells, & Green. Her dimensions were: length 142 ft 6 in (43.4 m); breadth 36 ft (11.0 m); depth 14 ft 10 in (4.5 m); burthen 530 tons (bm).
Her voyages for the EIC took her primarily to India and China:
- Voyage 1 (1802-1803): Captain William Hay. Madras and Bengal.
- Voyage 2 (1804-1805): Captain William Hay. Madras and Bengal.
- Voyage 3 (1806-1807): Captain William Hay. Madras and Bengal.
- Voyage 4 (1808-1809): Captain William Hay. Madras and Bengal.
- Voyage 5 (1810-1811): Captain William Hay. Madras and Bengal.
- Voyage 6 (1812-1813): Captain William Hay. Bombay and China.
- Voyage 7 (1815-1817): Captain Charles Graham. Bombay and China.
In 1817, Experiment was sold to Mr. Wilson. Her subsequent history is currently unknown. The Experiment was considered a "regular ship" due to her consistent service within the EIC fleet.
