Erie Creek (British Columbia)
Erie Creek is a creek located in the West Kootenay region of British Columbia, Canada. It is a tributary of the Salmo River. The creek is known historically for placer gold mining activity, which occurred primarily in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The small community of Erie, now largely a ghost town, was established as a result of this mining boom. Erie Creek flows through rugged terrain and forested areas, characteristic of the Kootenay region. While large-scale mining operations have ceased, recreational gold panning and exploration still occur in the area. The creek is also significant for its role in the local ecosystem, providing habitat for various fish and wildlife species. Access to Erie Creek can be challenging due to its remote location and mountainous surroundings.
